Close your eyes and imagine what a typical classroom looks like. Maybe you see desks? Maybe you see chairs? Perhaps you see multiple bookshelves. Now, allow me to tell you about my classroom. I see over 400 students in Pre-K-4th grades each week. Open the door any day, and you will not see desks or chairs. You will see 30 to 34 energetic, eager students in a theatre, on their feet, creating a scene, writing their own versions of Macbeth, reading and acting out scripts, creating a Perfect Society and writing a commercial to persuade visitors to come. My students are full of energy, they have diverse ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds, and they come from every walk of life. Many of my students are current or former English Language Learners and speak multiple languages. They are smart, inquisitive, eager, and on their way to greatness.
