I have 95 English language learners, from kindergarten to grade 5, and am in contact almost daily with parents, and older siblings that I have previously taught, and work with parents on providing education and support for younger siblings at home. My students are with me until they have achieved proficiency in English in listening and speaking. Their reading and writing must be on a high enough level that they will be successful in the mainstream classroom without my support. I have helped students and families "grow up" over the years, and go from a kindergartner, who didn't even know how to answer the question, "What is your name?" to being an honor student at a local college. getting married and having their children. We need to help one another learn.
