My high school students, primarily Hispanic, struggle with math for various reasons, and the majority come from low income homes. Their dream destination after college is slowly starting to set in as a reality. Some dream of a 2 year college, some 4 years, some beyond, and some simply plan to go straight to employment. Whatever the venture, my priority as their teacher is to equip them with the fundamental skills they needs for the next stage. My students are taking the lowest available math course at the high school level. For some they really need to go back to the basics. There are tremendous amounts of gaps in their learning and bad habits that must be broken. This makes for an incredible daily feat. Parental support can be limited due to parents under a great deal of stress financially and emotionally. Any support I can receive from any community member is always greatly appreciated!
