My students struggle with reading and they come to me because they are not going to graduate high school. When the school year begins, not one of my students has taken my reading class because they actually want to take the class. They are there against their will! As a teacher, I am met with students who have given up on themselves, and it is an uphill battle to change their mindset and address their each individual's learning deficits. Right now, we can only obtain computer access one class period per week. Access to laptops right in the classroom will allow me the opportunity to assign targeted learning activities for my at risk students. Additionally, laptops in our classroom will allow the students to utilize the eLearning platforms they became familiar with during the Covid-19 quarantine. These laptops will be used for learning as well as for the students to tracking student learning gains. By keeping track of their learning gains they will be holding themselves accountable for their own progress.
