My students are passionate about music and the arts. As a traveling music teacher, I do not have my own classroom. I share classroom space with the classroom teachers. When I come into their classes, students cheer and excitedly clean up their desks in anticipation for music. My chorus students (fifth and sixth grade) enjoy being challenged. Last year, I challenged them to perform two difficult junior high school pieces of music. They rose to the occasion and performed beautifully in front of junior high school and high school choir students from across our district. My students are motivated. They want to excel in music and are thirsty for more opportunities to perform. Last year, we applied for a grant to participate in the Disney Musicals in Schools program. Our school was lucky enough to be selected. We will be putting on our first musical as a school (third-sixth grade students.) My students are so excited about this opportunity. Ninety students have signed up to participate in this program.
