My classroom is on the smaller size. Due to necessary furniture my students don't have a ton of space to move around the room. I have considered different options to promote movement in my classroom. One goal of mine this year was to have a classroom full of flexible seating and design my classroom layout to promote body movement during learning. I have purchased a few types of different seats so far this year and I have been amazed by how much they have helped my students focus and develop. I believe having smaller book shelves to provide more movement space and flexible movement seating options will help my students engage their whole bodies along with stimulate their minds. As a teacher, my number one priority is to motivate my students in all aspects of school and share my love of learning with them. One thing I have found is that my kindergarten students love to move. These seats will provide them with seat choices and allow them to strengthen their core muscles. It will also promote focus for my students that find it difficult to contain all the energy in their tiny bodies during learning time. The items in my project will help me make our classroom a movement friendly environment. An intriguing learning environment makes coming to school joyful and I have seen how these types of seats excite and help learners reach success. I know that when my students are attentive and not required to remain perfectly still they will develop a strong love for learning and be able to engage their minds in all parts of our day.
