The students in my Special Day Class will have the opportunity to participate in a monthly therapeutic art lesson with a guest artist Tina Harder. Having the chance to practice art once a month with a trained art teacher will have many benefits for the students in the class. First, many of the students in the class have a high level of anxiety related to academic work. Art time will be a time for the students to relax and have a stress-free activity where there is no wrong. Second, each art lesson will focus on a famous artist such as Picasso, Van Gogh, and Monet. This will give students greater general world knowledge. Third, each art lesson will focus on a different painting/drawing techniques and the use of artistic medium. This will help to improve students' fine motor and visual perception skills, while at the same time improving their overall artistic skills. Lastly, art is a time where some students with special needs shine. For some of the students in the class, art day is the only day they feel that they are good at something and that something is easy for them. Art day is a day that is looked forward to by the students in the class and is greatly enjoyed by all students.
