Students in our classes are working very hard to take their ideas and dreams, and turn them into an idea on paper. Using the computer and our 3-d modeling software, they can actually create these ideas and dreams on paper, and can see them in 3-d on their computer screens, but they cannot "make" them. It is really challenging to talk about an item, and not hold it in your hands. Students are limited in their ability to test the item as well. By having a 3-d printer, students can take their ideas and dreams, and make them into something that not only can they hold in their hand they can test, they can revise and most of all, they can take home. 3-d printing will allow them to not only create from their ideas and dreams, but to take current items and innovate them to make changes that help them follow through with the design process.
