My students need technology that is not antiquated. The two desktop computers we now have freeze whenever we attempt to connect to the internet. Our tech person said they are a lost cause. This is a far cry from the way I wish to see technology used in my classroom! Having technology in the classroom that actually works would be life-changing for my students. Technology should be used as a tool to increase access to learning. With two iPads I would be able to create developmentally appropriate learning opportunities for my students. During our one hour of work time students could use apps such as: Park Math-Duck Duck Goose used for counting, sorting, and patterning; Little Writer used for letter formations; and AlphaTots used for learning the alphabet. They can also use the technology as a way to support positive social interactions with peers. The iPads can be used to catalog important ongoing investigations into our STEM units such as shadows, gardening, and rain. The iPads can also be used as a way for students to communicate and share their discoveries with their parents and peers. Having iPads in the classroom also gives me the opportunity to begin the important and essential discussion of digital citizenship. Children need to begin to understand the importance of their digital footprint and how important a part technology plays in so many career paths. Help me give my students the opportunity to strengthen their knowledge of technology and learn how to be media creators!
