My goal from the moment I walked through the doors of my school as Librarian was to kindle a lifelong love for books in the hearts of my students, that they would carry this passion with them throughout their lives. My schools is a Title I neighborhood school located in southwest Missouri. Over 75% of my students receive free and reduced-priced lunch. These beautiful kids walk into the library, and they are empowered. There is little in their lives that they control, except when they are able to select, check out, and take home books all for themselves. I love that I get to play a part in making this happen. The staff at my school pour their hearts into these students every day. I have never met a more unified and compassionate group of teachers. Many of my students have behavior and academic struggles, and these needs must be met first. There is little extra funding, though we always do our very best!
