Our classroom environment should be conducive to open collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking. When students are sitting at tables in traditional chairs, every single day and do not have the ability to get any of their wiggles out, this is not conducive. Flexible seating using wobble seats, balance ball chairs and foot fidgets, can be a solution for any classroom. Flexible seating has been proven beneficial for students in many areas. This includes increasing their motivation and engagement, using excess energy, burning more calories and improving metabolism, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain and improving core strength and overall posture. By giving students the choice of which seat they prefer, and what would stimulate them the most, they are already excited to be in the classroom. They are challenged while they are sitting and I will continue to challenge them, every day.
