My students need many, many materials as they begin their formal schooling journey. My classroom is always as hands-on as I can possibly make it. My class needs a variety of blocks, literacy and math manipulatives to independently practice their new understandings. They also need materials to connect their understandings to literacy and written math. We will use the clipboards and the whiteboards to illustrate these crucial new learnings. We also need a way to organize these materials so that students can independently access them. To create the learning environment that is most effective for children, I must make it child-centered.
