My classroom is full of some of the brightest and most challenged 8th grade students you may ever meet. They walk into my Social Studies classroom to learn and be successful from a world that judges them based on where they are from. My students are welcoming and caring, and they soak up everything that is said, yet many of them go home to have no one ask them how their day was, no bed to sleep in, and no books to read. My school in composed of students that live in high poverty. Approximately 80% of our students are on free or reduced lunch, yet these conditions don't stop them.
