My goal is to create a classroom library in which the books are a true representation of the diversity in our classroom. In order to provide an inviting learning community for my learners, I need to provide them with books including diverse characters as well as diverse topics.
My hopes are that these books will encourage my students to be proud of the unique individual that they are. My students love reading time whether they are looking at the pictures, reading the words, or listening to a story read aloud. I am hoping that with these new texts, the students will be able to make text-to-self connections which will lead to meaningful interactions with their peers and families.
Adding these new books to our classroom library will not only continue my students' joy for reading and learning, but will elevate it. My goal is that the books will serve as one of the many building blocks to create a classroom community that is inclusive of everyone that comes through our door.
