My students are starting their journey on being life-long readers. Most devour just about anything they can get their hands on and some need those “gateway” books to get them hooked on reading. My goal is to stack our library full of great novels featuring diverse protagonists from many different backgrounds. From Harry Potter to The Hate U Give, with these novels in this DonorsChoose grant, there is something for everyone, which will help all of my students reach their year-long goal and maybe help them fall in love with reading for the first time. Reading should be fun and students shouldn't be forced to only read stories about characters that are nothing like them. With these books, we will be able to appeal to all readers, from all backgrounds, and at all levels.
