More than 90% of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch. They come to a low-income Title I school every day where resources are very limited. Some of our students are unable to purchase supplies and the school is only able to do so much with the budget they have. Our students strive to do their best with what they have. Most parents hold 2-3 jobs and are unable to be there for their kids. 75% of our students are English Language Learners along with serving refugees and their families. Traveling outside of their neighborhoods is out of the norm for many of them. Some parents don't have IDs and are unable drive, while many of them rely on city buses to get to work. Parents are unable to take them places and when it comes to introducing them to new topics they are unable to make connections (their background knowledge is very low).
