I am a new librarian this year and have found that my library is very under-stocked. School libraries should have between 16-20 books per student and the goal is to have the average age of the library collection be 10 years old or less. My library has 16 books per student and the age of our collection is older than 15 years. I need help to update my library collection and bring in new books to give my students the resources they need. We have a diverse student population and it is important to me to stock the library with literature that reflects their cultures and experiences. Books like "I am Malala" and "The Playbook" give readers a window into the lives of people that are different from themselves, and gives them a mirror that reflects their own backgrounds.
