The materials requested in this project will help transform my classroom into a calm and welcoming learning environment. I am ditching my desks for the 2018-2019 school year and switching to tables with a flexible seating option. As an educator I know that students learn in different ways. Some students do well by learning at their desks in a chair. Others, learn best sitting under a table or laying on the carpet with a clipboard. Part of the materials requested will be used to help with classroom organization of student materials since we will be desk-free. Book bins and classroom caddies will help keep students materials organized and easily accessible. While the bean bags, benches, wobble seats and tables will support flexible seating within my classroom. The donations to my project will help create a welcoming and functional learning environment for all of my students. Over 75% of my students receive free or reduced lunch and their academic abilities range from gifted and talented to requiring special education. Additionally, many of my students have experiences ACEs (Adverse Childhood Experiences.) For many, school is a students safe place and as an educator it is my job to create a welcoming, safe and positive learning environment. The materials requested will help me enhance learning for students for years to come.
