Kindergarteners are some of the best people I know! Each year my students come to kindergarten eager and excited to do great things. They come from diverse backgrounds with a large range of skills and experiences. More than half of the students in my classroom come from low socioeconomic households, many of them from single parent homes, and a majority with little or no preschool experience. Despite this, they make tremendous academic and social gains during their time in kindergarten. Over the course of the year they rise to new challenges, strive for understanding, encourage one another and celebrate their achievements. It is truly amazing what they are able to accomplish. When my students leave for first grade they are readers, writers and budding mathematicians.
