This year, my class and I are going to be exploring the Giver by Lois Lowry. I am really excited about the opportunity to guide my class through this novel and to be able to lead discussions, explore new ideas, and find meaningful connections. The books found in this "tool kit" will be able to help students better understand the novel, think critically, make connections, and explore the novel more fully. I am especially excited for the graphic novel! I see this being a benefit to my ELL students or those who might be at a lower level of reading. When I read The Giver in school, I thought that was it, the book was done. It wasn't until I was older that I discovered that there are 3 sequels to the novel. I really hope that my students who find themselves attached to the book as I was will find joy in continuing the journey through Gathering Blue, the Messenger, and Son.
