All of our students deserve to communicate. This iPad will help provide an augmented communication device for nonverbal students in our district. AAC or Augmentative and Alternative communication is an alternative way to help students with language disorders use expressive language or receptive language. It is also known as supplemental communication, alternative communication, functional communication, assisted communication or facilitated communication. Voice output, or AAC, devices have been used to help those with developmental and acquired disabilities to communicate successfully. AAC devices offer tremendous promise in helping nonverbal individuals with autism overcome their unique communication barriers.
