The majority of the students in my school come from homes where Spanish is the primary language. My students not only have the challenge of English being a second language, but they also have learning disabilities. In many cases, these middle school students (grades 6-8) are reading at 3rd and 4th grade levels which is significantly below grade level. Because these are special education students, they are fortunate to qualify for membership in a free online library service due to their related learning disabilities. Some of the immediate benefits of using ebooks on tablets is that it allows for students to listen to spoken text while reading along, it can assist students in pronunciation as well as defining unfamiliar words. It will also allow these students to have free access to high-interest books that their peers are reading.
