Scholastic Newspaper is important in my classroom because it engages my students in real life topics that we may not cover in our traditional standards. The tasks they are asked to do while reading the magazine are aligned to our literacy and writing standards. This resource is exceptional to 2nd graders because it also offers my students an online version of the magazine where students can listen to it if they need to, or read/listen to it in Spanish... essential to my diverse group of learners! There are also teacher resources for myself to guide students, along with videos and games. Overall this non-fiction magazine is well-rounded and, from past experience, benefits all learners.
