Movement, Movement, Movement! Students can work with a seating option and a space that works for them! Whether its on a chair that moves, a seat that rocks, on the floor with a clip board or standing on a disk at a raised desk, students can move and not constantly hear 'sit down' or 'be still' all day. We can no longer ask students to sit in traditional chairs/desks all day and expect them to learn to the best of their potential. Allowing students the freedom to select a seat and a space that best meet their needs encourages a higher level of learner engagement. Students will use the variety of seating options throughout the day in all content areas utilizing the entire classroom. During independent work time at centers, writers workshop, or small group instruction students can chose the wobble seats at their desks or the scoop chairs on the floor. Students can also use the disks on the floor, on their chairs to allow motion or to stand on while working at a raised desk. Students will get the opportunity in the beginning of the year to find what works for them during certain activities, so when its time to get to work they will know what seat they need to be successful for any given situation.
