These resources will allow me to implement a hands on learning component to our literacy curriculum. As we learn each letter of the alphabet, I will be able to show real life examples of things that begin with that letter, developing letter-sound associations for all of my students and vocabulary development for my English Language Learners. The Road to Reading Activity Center will be an essential tool in my small group instruction time. With this center, I will be able to differentiate my small group instruction to work with students at their current level: intervention level-basic letter recognition, grade level-sounding out words, as well as an advanced level-reading books independently. The magnetic letters kit will replenish our old and incomplete supply of letters so that students can practice what they have learned independently- matching letters and building words. These resources will allow students to develop a deeper knowledge of the alphabet and beginning reading skills by using hands on exploration and individualized instruction. Allowing students to explore the alphabet in so many different ways will help to ensure that all of my students learn the necessary skills to begin reading by the end of the year!
