I teach third grade in a Title 1 school. My twenty one 3rd graders burst into our classroom every day full of life, ready to learn, work hard, and excited for what is in store for them that day. I strive to provide a classroom environment that serves my students individual learning needs and offers a warm and comfortable place to spend their days. Every year there are students in my classroom who work best when they have the ability to move. I have no problem allowing them to do what works best for them. While sitting in our hard blue plastic seats, they try to move, sit on their knees, or slump down. There is a solution.... different seating options for each individual student. While a small minority of students seem to work well sitting in a traditional chair for long periods of time, most need time to move.
