My students are the next generation of artists, journalists and storytellers. Some are reporters and editors, others are photojournalists, broadcast journalists and filmmakers. My students are talented, ambitious and award-winning. Many have moved on to study filmmaking or journalism in college. Some have made a career out of their passion for storytelling. My students are as diverse as their Texas community. At our large public high school, about 44 percent of the students are considered "economically disadvantaged," and 55 percent are considered "at risk."
