These robots will be used in a Robotics club and within my 6th grade math classes. The coding and building side of things are great ways to encourage student engagement. The math practice we use to change programming without "guessing and checking", but, instead to practice operational skills and interacting with decimals and measurements in general. Math is a driving factor here and it is infused with how I utilize the robots. Using the robots to actually SHOW how place value makes a difference, that using computation can be faster and more accurate than just guessing what to change programs, and how problem solving skills can help improve all areas of education can lead to deeper understanding of all STEM-related areas. This also builds skills towards communicating with partners and teammates to strive towards a common goal. While this seems like a large amount of robots to get, it will give whole classes the opportunity to interact and provide more opportunities for students truly connect with the skills being honed. This also helps to ensure that there aren't students sitting around waiting for an opportunity because too many students are trying to work together at the same time. When too many students have to share one robot, it can be very difficult to really engage with the coding and the practice of the skills imbedded within the lessons.
