My students range from struggling to gifted. Some view math as a set of procedures and some view it as a means to problem solve. With the Common Core Math Practices, students need to not only see math as procedure, but as means to solve problems and expand their thinking. Many of my students come to my class not believing that math is something they can do or something that is worth their effort. I hope to change that belief. My school also has a range of student economics and abilities. Some students have many struggles at home and others have become complacent and are looking for a challenge. I believe that our school has the ability to create leaders. We are, however, severely lacking in technology resources to challenge and have students grow. Math students have limited access to computers and other technology to make the curriculum meaningful.
