No ELA classroom is complete without a class library, where students have free access to high quality texts. This project would fund a library full of timeless and diverse works for students to read at school and at home. The purpose of a library is to encourage students to read in their free time, building lifelong skills that transcend the schoolhouse. While reading is an avenue through which to develop important literacy skills, it is chiefly an opportunity to foster empathy by exploring, considering, and valuing different perspectives. The presence of a library with Great Books cultivates humanity, encouraging students to be world citizens.
