Many of my students are part of a program, called Puente, that aims to help underserved students, largely Latino and African American, graduate from four year universities. All of the students in Puente spend their four years in high school not only reading and writing a lot, but they also serve as leaders at school and in the community. Right now, my students are freshmen, but I will be teaching them for the next two to three years.
