Because our students chose to attend an Early College high school, they do not have as many extracurricular options. For example, our school does not offer sports, band, or choir. Esports offers a perfect opportunity for us to offer competitive, team sports at our school without having to add sports facilities, pay constant transportation and maintenance costs, and everything else associated with running an athletics program. While starting an eSports team will be costly upfront, the annual cost will much more manageable as the majority of games we will play are free and because the High School Esports Network does not have tournament fees. High schools and colleges across the country are adding eSports programs every day; here in Indiana, more and more schools are offering scholarships for games such as Overwatch, Rocket League, and many more. Our program would help students earn these scholarships and continue their college education. An eSports team would reach students in our school who are generally not active in extracurricular activities, leading to increased student involvement. Our program would help foster an increase in school spirit and culture while bringing attention to our early college high school.
