Our students come from the most impoverished families in the Northern Virginia area. Many are recent immigrants, and struggle to read and write in English. Chess is a game which is taught worldwide, and permits these students to establish a cultural foothold in the United States. Starting a chess club will permit them to demonstrate their mental capabilities that are often overshadowed by a language barrier.

About my class
