Many of my students will be the first in their family to attend college. In addition, a majority of my students have limited resources in their home environment, as well as daily challenges that many of us may never encounter. Despite the challenges they face, they are dedicated and motivated to succeed. Imagine an initiative at your school that pushes for success, such as the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) program, but a lack of essential classroom supplies to fulfill the program's needs. Many of my students come from difficult home situations where school supplies are too expensive to purchase. While my students possess the individual determination to be successful, we lack the accessible technology necessary for college/career research and the building of 21st century technological literacy.
