This year, I am teaching 5th and 6th grade ELA for the first time, and many of my novel sets were inherited in weathered conditions. My teaching practice encapsulated small group novel studies, and the selected novels are a few titles that I deem relevant to my students. One of the most effective ways of teaching literacy, is to provided students with books that they are specifically interested in. For students, the process of reading-to-learn should enable them to see themselves represented in a text. The essence of this project speaks to this. In addition, providing access to a variety of text where various characters and settings are featured, further supports the literary skill of reading across genres and author styles of writing.
