I'm a second-year teacher in a second-year school. We got off to a fast start in our first year, learning songs in multiple languages and playing percussion instruments to learn musical concepts such as rhythm, beat, and dymanics. We hope to continue that success this year! My students come from all over our largely rural county of North Carolina. The school is kindergarten through fourth grade and we're planning to add a grade level each year until we get to K-8, possibly adding high school from there. The goal for my classroom is to be a place of exploration and musical play so students are engaged in learning music. My plan is to acquire as many music materials as possible, especially percussion instruments, as we started completely from scratch. In the future, I hope to earn certification in the Orff and/or Dalcroze methods to give my students the best learning experience possible.
