My hope is to create a space where my students can comfortably go to quietly work and be relaxed. Somewhere that will act as a calm place for them to focus or unwind when school or life becomes too overwhelming. With the addition of flexible seating to reach the diverse needs of my students and sensory objects to help relax them, I want my classroom to soothe all those who step foot in it. Because my students come to my classroom with social and emotional needs, that carry from home to school, I would like to start addressing this by creating a calm corner. The rocking chair and LED cube will be used in a corner of my room that will be transformed into the "Calm Corner" that will double as my reading area. In addition to those seating items, I will drape the fiber optic curtains down the wall in that corner. Wobble stools, the floor cushion and the balance ball chairs will allow my students an easy way to move and pick a spot in the room where they feel the most comfortable. The LED string lights will help to carry the relaxing mood throughout my room. Light filters will help dim the current fluorescent lights when they need to be used. The less distracting or disruptive I can make those lights (when I have to use them) the better. Finally, with the help of the humidifier/diffuser, I will create an atmosphere that is comfortable and relaxing to learn in.
