My students are used to seeing me with musical instruments, I use them in the classroom, at recess and after school in the community, students often see me playing in the community. During yard duty each morning at the school drop off I great students each morning with a different instrument, violin, guitar, mandolin, Dobro. My own sons are part of this community and I see that they respond to learning to play instruments best, when they get to play the music they love, and when music is about having fun with friends and family. The cultural and social aspect of music instruction should be a primary concern if we want children to become musicians. I got a grant from Little Kids Rock and have been teaching students rock songs on the instruments we received through that grant. But the songs and instruments in LKR are geared towards rock, I also want to teach folk music, Americana and Bluegrass. Please help us.
