Students will be Reading the classic children's novel, Where the Red Fern Grows, as a reading unit to show teach them lessons in responsibility, trust, relationship building and teamwork. This novel will also help teach them valuable social and emotional lessons, along with improving their reading literacy. This novel easily allows me to cross cut subject and introduce social science lessons that will give them knowledge about how life was in the early 20th century. Where the Red Fern Grows teaches students how to handle emotions they may have never experienced.
