Building a comfortable and familiar learning environment in the classroom promotes educational success. When students feel at ease in a classroom, they want to be there. After a lengthy period of isolation, students are finally re-entering the classroom, and they're struggling. Not only do we, as teachers, need to help them catch up academically, but we also need to help resocialize for the academic environment. I want to create a more conducive environment for learning and community building in my classroom. The items I have chosen will make my classroom a place that students want to be in. After working from home for almost two years, entering a stark classroom with harsh fluorescent lighting is inhospitable. Ambient LED lighting will create a more favorable atmosphere for cognition as well as make the space cozier. Along with the art I brought from home, I want students to be surrounded by inspirational and educational English posters. I have also included a few odds and ends (like colored and mechanical pencils and a monitor) for practical uses. Altogether I believe these items will allow me to build a friendlier and more opportune learning environment for my students.
