I would like to set up a traditional chemical darkroom in my elementary school. We will be needing chemistry darkroom supplies like a red light, trays, and storage bottles as well as photographic paper. A wet darkroom is one of those things that's disappearing from schools all over the country and is almost never seen in an elementary school setting. Photography is an art form that has become almost universal in our society with the ease and proliferation of cameras in smartphones. It is a very easy way to introduce students to self expression and the visual communication of ideas and concepts. Introducing students to traditional photographic methods teaches concepts like work flow, materials safety, and patience! The camera we will be using will be pinhole cameras that we will make ourselves. This will introduce students to basic optics and the mathematics behind creating photographs.
