We are Vincent Accelerated Academy, a Milwaukee Public School pilot program, operating within Milwaukee Vincent High School. Our classroom is located in the original Metals Shop of the Industrial Education wing which means our work is just beginning. Students are identifying project based learning tasks that are transforming the Metals Shop into their own personalized learning space. Students begin by drafting job proposals of their project that include materials, time, cost, and purpose served within the classroom. Several students have gained experience remodeling the tool cages into work display frames. However, the first "major" project is an old and very heavy duty shop table. The students are proposing to replace the aged surface with one that includes the school mascot, school colors, and board games. The new surface is going to include tiles and game boards protected by an epoxy resin.
