It's no secret that today's classrooms need units with Social-Emotional Learning embedded within them. Research is beginning to show the importance of SEL as it relates to the future success of our students. In order for students to truly comprehend and apply a unit's message, they must be able to make a personal connection with the resources used to convey the objective. As I continue to plan for the upcoming school year, I feel strongly that my students would benefit from the reading of more contemporary, culturally-relevant novels. With class sets of the novels, Refugee, Speak,and All American Boys, we'll be able to read and discuss novels that'll positively impact the lives of all students.

About my class
