Arminta Street is a Title 1 school located in an industrial neighborhood of the San Fernando Valley. 87% of our students are deemed economically disadvantaged. Of the 472 students, 76 students are classified as "Students with Disabilities," and 165 students are "English Language Learners." We are one of five schools which feed the Sun Valley Magnet School (a grades 6-12 full STEAM magnet). For the past four years my class has served as a pilot for many innovations we hope to make across the campus as we transition into a true feeder school for the local magnet. This year I added a computer science component, as well as the initial stage deployment of Google Apps for Education. As we move into the 2017 school year, the administration and I have developed a plan for my class to collaborate with the magnets incoming 6th graders via Google Apps and to develop a writing program connecting the two campuses.
