Writing workshop is one of our favorite parts of the day! My students love to share their writing with their peers, former teachers, and their family. We study many mentor authors throughout the year; discovering ways we can make our writing stronger and more meaningful. In second grade, students write personal narratives, informational and opinion pieces, and poetry. My students are writing risk-takers; however, we lack a consistent supply of drafting and publishing materials to feel confident in taking them. We need pencils, pens, highlighters, erasers, and correction tape so we can plan and draft our writing pieces. With a quiet, electric pencil sharpener, our pencils will stay as sharp as our minds without causing disruption. My students would love to see their hard work come to fruition and publish a book just like the mentor authors they have studied. Laminating and binding their pages will add durability for a book they can treasure for years to come!
