“Imagine being asked to win the Indy 500 driving an old Volkswagen.” That’s exactly what’s expected from my Kindergarten students to accomplish with an old iMac G3, built back in 1998. It is the last one working in our classroom. Most of my students have no access to a computer at home. Their only opportunity to work with one is at school using this old iMac G3 that freezes when connecting to educational websites and running outdated software. It’s like asking my 24, 5 year olds, to share one pencil. It breaks my heart to see their disappointed faces when this happens. I can only imagine how much more their enthusiasm and learning would grow in reading, math, and all the content areas if they had more updated technology available in the classroom.
