My student are amazing young scholars, always excited to learn and experience new things. They love story-telling, especially when they get to be the characters. Our classroom community is very diverse with over 7 languages and cultures/ethnicities represented including English, Spanish, Arabic, Tagalog, Chinese, Cambodian, African-American, Thai and Burmese, some of whom are refugees and recent immigrants who are learning English as their second language. Many live in highly impoverished neighbors and come from families where their parents work 2-3 jobs to make ends meet. We also have students who are in shelters and are homeless. They are a bright and resilient group of young people. We are a public school in California.
