I teach art to a high needs community of mostly Hispanic students many of which are first generation citizens of the United States. Art is one of the many subjects in a school setting that forms connections among people of many different times, places, and cultures. My school itself is extremely supportive of the arts at a time when many schools are cutting back. What that means is that while do have both an art and music teacher and several after school arts programs such as drama, dance, instrumental money for supplies for these classes is often short and does impact the quality of programming we can offer our students. I've got some great ideas for art experiences I know my students would love I just need the supplies to implement them.
