I am a 4th grade teacher, who has 32 students in my class. 95% of my students are below the "Poverty Level", and 100% of my students receive free, federally funded, breakfast and lunch. 40% of my class does not speak English, as their primary language so I deliver instruction in both English and Spanish. My students are in desperate need of every type of school supply imaginable. I (as many of my fellow teachers) end up purchasing notebooks, pencils, copy paper, rulers, dry erase markers, tissues, (and even food) with my own money. My students deserve to have the most level "playing field" as their suburban counterparts, with the education that they receive. Please understand that whatever "preconceived" notions society has about inner city children, their home-lives, their behavior, their attitudes, or whatever...they are JUST children. My kids love school, love to learn, and deserve a chance to be successful!
