One of our main vocational tasks is to shred documents provided to us through the school and the public school system in the county. Our students love this job as it fulfills many of their sensory needs. Students also complete these tasks to earn classroom currency to purchase rewards such as computer time, snacks, or their favorite music video. This directly translates to their potential transition to the ‘real world’ and their ability to work in exchange for money or other goods and services. Adding this paper shredder will create add responsibility for students to learn. Practice with routine and fulfilling a task or demand will create within them a sense of purpose and pride in their work, but also it will let them know that their hard work is rewarded.
